Océano Profundo’s Diving Camp is completed over 3 days and 2 nights at Las Estacas, Morelos. You study the theory online beforehand, at your own pace, through the NAUI online learning system. The in-person part covers the Confined Water Practice, the open-water dives and the final evaluation.
Where do the diving practice sessions take place?
The practice sessions take place at Las Estacas Natural Park, Morelos, two hours from Mexico City. It is a crystal-clear freshwater spring with good visibility, ideal for the Confined Water Practice and your first open-water dives. Trips depart from Mexico City.
What is the difference between PADI and NAUI?
PADI and NAUI are two international scuba certification agencies, both recognized worldwide. NAUI keeps strict safety standards and gives the instructor more room to reinforce skills before moving on. NAUI certifications are valid for life and accepted at any dive center on the planet.
What is the minimum age to scuba dive?
The minimum age for the NAUI Open Water Diver course with Océano Profundo is 12 years old. Minors dive within specific depth limits set by NAUI standards and need parent or guardian authorization. No previous diving experience is required.
Do I need to know how to swim to take the course?
Yes, you need to know how to swim and feel comfortable in the water to take the scuba course. You don’t need to be an expert swimmer or have any previous diving experience. Instruction starts from zero: you learn to handle the equipment and the skills in Confined Water before any dive.
What does the Océano Profundo course include?
The Diving Camp includes the NAUI online learning system, lodging at Las Estacas, scuba equipment rental during the course, the Confined Water Practice, the guided dives, the evaluation and the international NAUI certification. It does not include transportation, meals or a personal wetsuit.
Is the NAUI certification valid internationally?
Yes. The NAUI certification is valid for life and recognized at any dive center in the world. With your NAUI card you can rent equipment, book dives and continue your training in any country. NAUI is one of the oldest and most respected scuba certification agencies internationally.
Who teaches the courses at Océano Profundo?
The courses are taught by Saúl López Vite, NAUI instructor #64102, CMAS 3★ (top level) and a marine biologist from UAM. He combines dive training with scientific knowledge of the marine environment, adding biology and ecology context to every course. He teaches in English and Spanish.
Do I need a medical certificate to dive?
You need to be in good general health to scuba dive. Before the course you complete a standard diving medical questionnaire; if any answer requires it, a physician’s clearance is requested. Conditions such as heart, respiratory or ear problems require prior medical authorization.
What languages are the courses taught in?
Océano Profundo’s courses are taught in English and Spanish. The NAUI online learning system is available in both languages, and in-person instruction adapts to the group’s language. This lets both international residents and visitors in Mexico City take the course.
