The usual
An instructor with a current credential. That is all the standard requires, and at most schools that is all there is.

We certify with NAUI, the agency that trains scientific divers and military personnel in several countries. The card is recognised at any dive centre in the world and it does not expire.
Confined water and open water on the same trip

A pool in the city one weekend. The sea some other day, once enough people sign up. Months can pass in between.

Confined Water Practice and the four evaluation dives happen on the same trip. You leave on Friday having never dived and come back certified on Sunday.
